Thinking that you have a load of dates to remember for your work, there are more to come.

Wedding planning is a mega project with a massive number of dates to remember.

If you do not have a diary to record the dates and you do not want to forget any of the following important dates, I suggest you stop reading right now and go get a personal wedding diary.

I remembered right after the proposal, a date has to be set aside to talk to my wife’s mother so as to tell her the good news.

Right after that throughout the wedding plannng phase, there were endless number of dates to set aside to visit the many bridal studios, the hotels, the photographers and the videographers, to carry out the customary wedding practice and to renovate the bedroom.

Even though it may be convenient for the wedding couple to take the easy way out to discuss over the phone or to sign the contract right at the bridal exhibition, it may not be so ideal in the long term.

Recently, I got an email from a bride telling me that she changed her bridal studio and she lost her thousand dollars deposit.

The bridal studio was a reasonably popular one but the experience she had with them was so bad and really pissed her off such that she had to forgo the deposit she had with them.

After the proposal is done, what is next?

There seem to be an endless things to be done but wedding couples who are completely new to this committment can be absolutely clueless of what to do even for the next step.

So it sounds like not everybody knows what actually is “wedding planning”.

Putting physical tasks such as looking for the right hotel, the right venue for their honeymoon and the right bridal studio, many are unaware that there are even more challenging tasks coming towards them.

I remembered these are the 5 Biggest Problems for Me while preparing for my wedding.

1. “Money is never enough”
Lots of money is required for my wedding. The expense list can be as long as a few metres long. I need to pay for the wedding package we got from the bridal studio, the deposit for our wedding dinner, the renovation of our bedroom. Money saved for the past few years was completely used up in a few months.

Money that was saved at the beginning of each month would be withdrawn by the end of every month.

Kudos to the many wedding couples who spent years of saving up together for their mega wedding project. I had learnt from a few friends who spent 5 years saving up every single cent that they could for their weddings.

Other wedding couples who were lucky to have the “sponsorship” from parents may not understand what I meant or the times I went through. I had some friends whose parents deposited over S$50,000 into their bank accounts and told them to make their weddings really grand.

Even though at first it may be seen as a windfall, such couples lose the opportunity of learning to save together and to plan their finance.

2. “Whether they found the right one?”
For me, I was very sure my wife is the right person I want to marry.

This concern was shared by my female friends as most wondered if they could have found a better one or if their soon-to-be husbands were the right people for them.

I believed such concerns were common and normal for ladies as they are putting their future into someone’s else hands. And there is no turning back.

Marriage is a process of many ups and downs.

It is never like what some of the medias portray as a smooth and comfortable bed of roses.

If a couple tells you that they never have any disagreement or conflict, they are lying.

Nowadays, there are many ways to seek advice or opinions when someone bump into a wall in his or her relationship.

One of the common ways is confiding in a trusted friend.

Remember the last time you have a problem and you could have confided in either your colleagues or your buddies.

However, such move is dangerous as untrained friends may start giving you advice and they want you to do this or that, thinking that the solutions they provide are fool-proof.

In actual fact, friends are most likely talking from their perspective and they may not necessarily fully understand what situations you are in.

In addition, you may just be seeking a listening ear rather than a solution.

Have you felt even more at loss after telling a friend your problem and all he does is tell you “not to worry” or “don’t think about it”?

The second way of looking for an answer is turn to God of your own religion. Some people just pray or they prefer to sit alone in a church or chapel to have some quiet moments. Others meditate.

The third way is to call a helpine offered in your country. There may be helplines for distressed couples or unhappy bride or groom. Helplines are manned by professional social workers or trained volunteers who will have more skills and knowledge to address the different issues that couples have. This is one of the highly recommended ways to seek an answer.

I have heard from a friend that her wedding has been postponed. It is very sad indeed to hear the news from her.

There were a few exchange of emails and I learnt from her that she is a strong lady.

Postponement of weddings could arise from many factors.

One of the reasons could be that either the groom or bride has to continue working due to some very important project. They may need to fly off to another country just to seal some multi-million deals with some multi-national companies.

In summary, they are indispensable and their companies need them.

Another reason that I have come across is that either one party has second doubt about committment to the marriage and want more time to think about it.

The third reason that I could think of is either one of the parties could have met with an accident or is unfit for the commencement of the weddings.

Personally, I feel it is really painful for the wedding couples to come to a common consensus to postpone their weddings. It is not an easy decision to make together.

Wedding itself is not just whereby the bride completely steals the limelight.

There are some instances when bridesmaids took all the attention from the guests.

I think some brides are very kind such that they want to give the bridesmaids the best gowns.

They are careful with the dos and don’ts so as not to hurt the feelings of their friends.

There are other times that the bridesmaids know their boundary and try not to be ?prettier? than the brides. But sometimes, it does happen as some bridesmaids are naturally prettier than the bride, eevn if they put on simple make-up.

Even if so the bridesmaids naturally look more beautiful than the brides, some bridesmaids try not to stand too close to the brides so as not to compete attention.

Hmmm?then that defeats the purpose of having bridesmaids then.

Photographers also like the opportunity to take photos of pretty girls hanging around the wedding function.

They make excellent subject for photography.

Have you ever seen a photographer who only capture shots of brides?

Nope, I don’t think so. Photographers are always on the move for interesting and pretty subjects, and one of them is the bridesmaids.

Actually, here are 3 things bridesmaids can do before the wedding day:
1. Discuss what common color do they want to wear
2. Discuss the details of wedding day so as to delegate roles and responsibilities.
3. Assure the bride that she is the most beautiful lady on that day
4. Ask the bride what color is her gown.
5. Be natural and stay pretty.
