One of the things we are concerned about is Choosing Wedding Favors, a gesture of appreciation to the guests who are willing to take time to attend and shower their heartfelt blessings to us.

When deciding what kind of weddign favors to present to our valued guests, the following points may be helpful:

Pricing

Wedding planning involves proper financial planning and budgetting. Wedding favors cost can add up to a substantial amount, and needs to be worked out as soon as you start the wedding cost planning.

Choose a wedding favor that suit your budgetting size, always allow cost expansion (additional charges) for wedding favors. Wedding favors cost may be risen by the increase of guests added into your guest list in the last minute.

Theme

Decide on a theme if you are choosing to customise and personalise your wedding favors. Customisation requires a longer lead time, therefore, you may need to work out a theme as soon as you have decided on a venue.

Theme can be worked around with Color Themes (pink, blue, multi-color etc) , Ambience Themes (Romantic, Exotic, Fun, Wacky, Dreamy, Zen etc), Season Themes (Winter, Autumn, Spring, Summer etc), Style Themes (Simplistic, Loud, Contemporary etc). It’s your wedding, you call the shots and decide what theme you want to engage.

Types of Wedding Favors

The size of your budget will decide on the wedding favors choices. For more economical favors, you may consider using the favors provided by your venue vendor, which are normally at a minimal fee, or complimentary.

There are many type of wedding favors. There are lollies, picture frames, keychains, chocolates, teddy bears and fridge magnets.

Having wedding magnets as wedding favors could be really interesting and useful.

First of all, they can be sticked on fridge and be used to hold memo.

Secondly, magnets could be stuck to the fridge and won’t disappear among the pile of papers we have on our desks.

Many times, we either cast the wedding favors into the deep corners of cabinets or throw them away when we reached home.

When choosing wedding favor, I look for its practicallity. Can it be used? Will guests throw them away or even leave it behind in the wedding ballroom?

If the answer to the above questin is yes, then it may guarantee a longer lifespan for your wedding favors and they may not end up in the rubbish bins yet.

Personally I feel that wedding is once a life-time thing and if we want to plan it, we put in our best.

Ideally, we would like to get whatever we want. However, there is always the constraint of budget.

I was looking through my folders in my desktop and happened to find some wedding favors’ photos that I have downloaded in the past from singaporebrides.com forum

This lady was very creative and she did her own wedding favors.

She posted these photos in the forum to share with other members like me.

“Hi JR, I am also considering to have my wedding banquet at Holiday Inn Park View. What are your comments abt the food, svc etc?”

My reply:

“When I come to think about it, I have not really blogged a proper post on the feedback on the hotel.

My first contact with HIPV was Pauline. She was quite friendly to me. However, my cousin who accompanied me when we were going to sign the contract found her to be arrogant and snobbish. My cousin was very helpful as she tried very hard to get more free perks for me.

A few months later, Shue, the new coordinator took over, telling us Pauline had quitted. We met Shue thrice to discuss the wedding details such as how we wanted the table layout, the stage layout, wedding favors to choose from etc.

The last contact with Shue was when she handed us the wedding cards.

Not long later, when we emailed Shue, another lady Vanitha replied saying thta Shue had taken “unpaid leave” to study. But I found out on the forum that another coordinator told other brides that she had left. The Director had left too.

We were shocked as it was a few weeks just before our wedding.

The new cooridinator was more coorperative and responsive. She was more accomodating and threw in whatever perks she could offer…Free bottle of wine in the bridal suite, free corkages for 10 more bottles of wine from the previous 5, 2 guest books instead one for sourvenir…

Both me and my wife, though was glad that Vanitha was more accomodating that the previous two, but before that we were really unhappy that she only contacted us afer we emailed Shue.

We brought this matter to the Director but only to realise she had quitted. Then, there was an acting Director who took over and he was initally quite rude that we give them this feedback about that poor service in taking care of their customers. But he wanted to close the matter and he gave us 2 helpers’ room instead of one and free corkages for 40 bottles of wine.

The food-tasting was coordinated by Shue and the food was above average. It was edible. But according to Hong Kong custom, the dishes were not colorful enough and so we changed quite a number of dishes.

Frankly speaking on the wedding dinner, I was not sure about the taste of the food as we were being dragged along with the flow of wedding dinner. We only managed to eat about 3 dishes.

Last year, I attended 8 weddings dinners in total excluding my own. This year, I had just attended one and I will be attending two more in the next few months till December 07.

(In fact, tomorrow I am attending my beloved cousin’s wedding ROM and I am her photographer. )

So far, not a single wedding favors I have collected impressed me or had even left a deep impression. Now, I got 16 wedding favors plus another 12 from Holiday Inn Park View. ( The hotel gave us the whole set as we were their customers.)

I am looking for really creative wedding favors that is really impressive and useful. Hmmm…I have high expectations.

I managed to see some that caught my eyes. Some are expensive though but they can give wedding couples more reasons to replace their wedding favors if their budget allows.
