Wedding Routine of a Week: Part 1

As Featured On Ezine Articles

Once after proposal, the preparation of your wedding begins. I remembered once after my own proposal, the first thing on our mind is to announce to our parents.

Announcing to our own parents is easier. The most difficult part for me is breaking the news to my mother-in-law.

During the first visit to my in-law’s place, I brought beer and fruits, hoping that gifts can make the task seem less hard.

The beer was for the father and the fruits for the both.

Such happy news calls for celebration.

When I was about to tell my in-laws about our plans to get married, I was breaking cold sweats.

After our parents both know about our wedding plans, the next-to-do things on the list is to have a rough idea what your ideal wedding is. Plus, how much wedding budget you have.

There is a fine line between spending just what you think should be spent and over-spending.

A wedding preparation plan should be drawn out. Both of us got a scrap book as our wedding planing book.

Wedding Ang Pow Box

As Featured On Ezine Articles

In Chinese Wedding, there are always reception tables for the guests to ask about their table which they will be sitting at.

In addition to that, this is a time when guests will give red packet or ang pow as a gift to the wedding couple.

There is money in the ang pow. If you are just a normal acquantaince or fellow colleague, the amount of money is about S$80 to S$100.

For very good friends, they may give about S$120 to S$150.

For relatives, they may give from S$200 to S$2000 depending on the closeness and relationship.

Some relatives may even give to S$10,000 to the wedding couple.

At the reception table, there is an ang pow box when guests can slot their red packets in.

There is always a close relative or family member who is incharge of the box as the amount of money in the box may build up to S$40,000 for that night.

I have heard of con man who posed as relatives and divert the attention of the person who is in charge of the box. The con man may lied that the groom told him to take over and he ran off once he got hold of the box.

You may choose to do-it-yourself or buy a ready-made one.

How you can do a ang pow box for your wedding?

You need to get a box for A4 papers, a piece of wrapping paper, glue and a decor.

For the decor, you may be able to get wedding bears, dolls, angels or any item you think is suitable.

Here are some ang pow box designs you may want to follow:

Wedding Dance

Wedding Dance is uncommon in my country.

wedding dance
from thegolddisc.com

Normally, we call it march in. I feel wedding can be a very special one when the wedding couple dances into the ballroom rather than the normal march in.

My cousin had his wedding and surprisingly, there was this segment when he danced with his bride.

The dance served as an entertainment for us too.

Soon after, other guests joined them and we had our first dance too. The aisle was packed with dancing couples.

Even my aunties and uncles who are already in their sixties joined in too.

Rather an amazing sight to see. One of the very few in Singapore’s wedding indeed.

If you are planning your wedding and have a special piece of music for your all important first dance, you may want to sign up your very first wedding dance lesson in a dance studio.

Through a course of private lessons, the dance teacher may be able to customise the dance lesson for you.

As you know, we all have different calibre. For me, I’m sure I’m not a good dancer because I can’t coordinate the dancing steps well.

However, it is always worth a try.

At the dance studio, the experienced teachers can choreograph an individual dance to fit your music perfectly.

There are different type of wedding dances:
1. traditional Waltz,
2. sexy Argentine Tango
3. passionate Rumba

Wedding Day Make-Up artist

Choosing a ?good? makeup artist:

makeup artist
from justmic.com

– Someone who understands your style/ character to cater a look for you. However note that usually brides? makeup (in white gown) is rather angelic. Unless you ask for something different.

– Arrange for someone who is reliable (say is he/ she does freelance) because you do not want him/her to be late for makeup on your wedding day!

– Usually wedding studio has packages that comes with makeup. You can do a trial with them and see if you like it. For freelance artist there might be a nominal charge, however it still comes up to abt the same price as the studio makeup artist. Give yourself more options?

*Jhong Ren’s comment:
Having anyone reliable on your wedding day is a MUST! You need reliable bridesmaids who are systematic planners and can help you to take care of matters if things didn’t turn well.

Having a bridesmaid that can do make-up is important too because she needs to help your do touching up now and then throughout the whole day.

We paid the same Makeup artist from the Bridal Studio S$50 to help my mother-in-law to makeup.

Wedding DIY Placecards

As Featured On Ezine Articles

I have some emails from brides who grumbled over how much money they have to spent on their wedding.

In fact, there are some items which we could do it ourselves.

If our designs are nice and unique, we can even sell them to friends who have money to spare but no time.

These few posts will be for those of you who want to DIY or you may want to make them to sell.

But be prepared, DIY needs time, effort, patience and creativity.

If your designs are common and dull, customers can get from any where.

Looking at the websites of some brides, there are in fact brides who are entrepreneurial and they sell their wedding ideas to other brides.

They have so many ideas and the key difference is they allow customisation.

For a start, I would like to post on placecards.

Many times our placecards come together with the wedding dinner package.

Most of them look plain and simple.

Whichever wedding dinner we go to, all the placecards look the same and boring.
