The 6 wedding dinners I attended in 6 month

5-wedding-cards.jpg

To come to think of it, I have attended 6 wedding dinners between January to July in this year. It doesn’t make me a wedding-dinner expert but it makes me more aware of the finer details I have to take note of for my own wedding dinner.

In January, I went to Marina Mandarin. In March, I went to Furama Riverfront Singapore. In June, I went for 3 wedding dinners, one at Plaza Parkroyal Singapore, Hilton and Grand Copthorne. In July, I went to York Hotel. Kinda of overwhelming but still it is fun. Beside attending our dear friends’ weddings, it is also a good opportunity to catch up with other friends.
My overall feeling is that it is definitely very tiring for the couples. In one instance, the bridegroom’s face is totally red, redder than a strawberry. Think he drank bottles of beer and wine rather than glasses of them. Still, it is a once a lifetime mega-project and experience for the wedding couples. So I wish they cherish and enjoy every moment that day. And not forgetting, it is the starting of another journey. I hereby wish them a blissful marriage for everyone of them. 😀

More on preparing for wedding day

One day has passed. It only means one day nearer to my wedding day. Continuing from the previous post, there are still more to tell you.
6. Exhibition on wedding gowns and packages are plenty. There may be smaller scale exhibitions in shopping centres such as Marina Square. Or they may be bigger ones in Expo or Suntec City. Or you may want to drop by Tanjong Pagar. I have never been there but I heard that there is a long stretch of road where all the popular wedding studios lined.
7. After settling on one studio, decide on what package you want. They can be the most basic ones costing about $3.3K to very expensive ones costing at least $10K. The rule of the thumb is work within your budget. It could be very tempting to want to get the more expensive ones after the sales person showed you all the very well-taken photographs of wedding couples. It is always better if you and your spouse-to-be can discuss your expectation before you set into the studio.
8.After selecting the package, the sales coordinator will fix a date for trying the wedding gowns. This may last for about 2 to 3 days. Prepare to spend the whole day trying for ladies. ONLY choose those that you really like. My fiancee’s friend has an interesting rule to choose gowns: she siad when you first see yourself in the mirror, there must be this “WOW” in your mind. :p For guys, it is easy. I just took 1/2 hour to try my tuxedo and a suit and get my trouser’s measurement done.
9. The next visit to the studio will be the day the couples tried the altered gowns and suit. This may take 1 to 2 hours. Then, the sales coordinator will fix another date for photo-taking (both indoor and outdoor). If you are working, remember to apply a whole-day leave. My photo-taking started at 9.30am and ended at the same time at night.
10. A few weeks later, the studio will contact you to view the photos and to choose those that you want for your album. At this point in time, I have already reached this stage. I will be collecting my albums only in end of October. Wow…very long!!! Can’t really wait to see them. 🙂

Preparing for your wedding day

Preparing for my wedding day is a long journey ahead. Wedding preparation is like a big project with milestones and datelines to meet. Failing to meet them is awaiting disaster to happen. Pebbles will accumulate into boulders. It is a roller-coaster ride. It can be tedious with lots of work to do and dates to remember. But it is definitely fun because I’m planning with my spouse-to-be.?My wedding day is in December 2006. I have started preparing for my wedding since December 2005. It started off from buying that diamond ring for proposal till meeting the new hotel sales coordinator (because the previous quitted due to “some” reason).?

The reason why I started this site is mainly because I want to blog my wedding preparation experiences to share with you. Doesn’t really matter you are going to start planning or in the midst of your planning, I hope this wedding web site will be informative for you. When I was the beginning phase, I was clueless too. I started to ask around my friends who were planning their weddings too, but most of them were clueless too. I ended up asking my friends who were married. I’m grateful to the many tips and advices they gave me on wedding, from taking note of the nitty gritty details to how to handle persistent sales person who wants to sell you their most expensive package.

To tell you frankly, how I wish I can share with you whatever I have learnt about wedding-planning on this blog within one posting. My sense is as bloggers and readers, we have to be patient. I will consistently add on to the postings every day. Too many info can be an avalanche that may overwhelm us. Simply to start off, in general there are some major tasks to be done.

1. Firstly, you got to decide whether you are going to have your solemnization on the same day as the wedding dinner. If yes, is it held together in the same venue?. If no, when are the two different dates and where are the venues?

2. Next, you have to decide whether you prefer to have a wedding lunch or dinner. If yes to any of this, do ask yourself if you want to have a sit-down style or buffet style. And what is your budget?

3. Where would you want to hold your wedding? Some prefer solemnization in some church (depending on your preference). Some would prefer to do it at home. As for the wedding lunch, would it be in a restaurant or a hotel’s ballroom or even in a park or zoo.

4. Once decided, surf the net for the contacts of the preferred venues. Let’s take for example you prefer a ballroom. Look for the contact number of the banquet of the hotel. Make appointment with the banquet coordinator to view the venue. Sometimes, web site’s pictures can be deceitful. Ha ha…Better still, arrange for a time when there is an actual wedding going on. I shall tell you more about things to observe in my future posting. Do look out for it. 😀

5. After sourcing for at least 4 to 5 hotels, you will need to do some research on the different wedding studios. There are plenty of them. Do look out for exhibitions when there will be more freebies thrown in the package.

I’m not sure if the info is over-whelming for you. As I have shared with you, it is a mega-project. Much bigger than any project you have taken up in your entire life. It is tough to go through all these alone, especially when either of the paries are working or can be busy. I see it as a partnership between the couples. Enjoy the process and go through them together, supporting each other at times. For me, what really matters is that you and your partner must always be open to communication in order to understand each other’s expectations, whether hidden or not. Remember no assumption. I shall talk more about mind-set next time. Not to worry. This blog will have enough info for you to know the wedding-planning process. 😀

How I have made my first pair of earring for my fiancee?

The earring that I made
This is my first posting for my wedding blog. The blog is not entirely ready yet, but to kick-off the blog, I shall post something that is close to my heart. What you see here is a picture of a pair of earring.
I spent the night before Valentine’s Day at 10.30pm to create my very first pair of earrings for my fiancee. This is my first time doing it. At 11pm, I was twisting hooks, attaching the beads and aligning the strands of crystals late into the night. Hmmm. .finally after spending 4 hours of adjusting the earrings and another 1 hour quality-control, I could finally say I have completed making them. I was very satisfied about my work. Hmmm…hope my fiancee will love the earrings.
Making a pair of earring is never easy…it left minor bruises and cuts on my fingers. 🙁 The cutting and the bending of wires were not as easy as I had thought of earlier and I began to appreciate ladies’ accessories more. Let me give it a name…hmmm…what should it be…let me call it “j&j” representing the first initial of both our names.
