About 1 month ago, we have collected our invitation cards. We only have 2 choices. Of course, we chose the ivory one. Normally, wedding cards are collected 2 – 3 months prior to the actual day and 70% of the confirmed attendance will be given. Meaning if you have 100 guests, you will have 70 cards.Normally they will give you a plain card and an envelope.
For the internal printing, you got to find printers to do it for you. Normally, hotels will recommend you some of their printers. You can also find other printer if you have any.
Our ivory card is really plain. Wondering what sort of design you can suggest? Do let me know as comments for this post. :p

Food tasting

“WARNING: DO NOT VIEW THIS POST WHEN YOU FEEL HUNGRY!!!”

We went for our food tasting today. A table for ten people was arranged in a function room specially reserved for us. And we had a waitress allocated to serve us and to explain to us the food we were eating. I’m not used to the classy environment and for a moment, I felt “wow”.

We even had to fill up an evaluation form to rate the dishes and give our comments.

Here is the menu for tonight: Enjoy!!! :p “Hope it won’t make you hungry!”

1. Cold & Hot Platter- Roast Duck, Prawn salad, Japanese Octopus, Pacific Clams, Top Shell

img_3634.JPG

Comment: The chicken is too salty and we requested it to be changed to suckling pig. The octopus would be just nice if less salty.

2. Shark’s fin soup with crabmeat and conpoy

img_3637.JPG

Comment: Wow…it was really dense and so concentrated with shark fins…so dense that I could hardly stir…but then hor…is it like that for food tasting so we will be impressed and the quantity will differ on the actual day?

3. Cispy Pi-pa duck

img_3639.JPG

Comment: The skin was really crispy and you can let it be crunched in your mouth. :p A bit salty though but the decor was nicely done.

4. Mixed mushrooms wrapped with beancurd skin in bamboo pith

img_3640.JPG
Comment: I love it especially the beancurd skin.

5. Stir-fried prawns with apple mayonnaise

img_3644.JPG

Comment: The apples were cut too big and taste sour…”yucks”…mismatch with the prawns…maybe mango will be better. The “you tiao” is abit extra.

6. Stir-fried fresh scallops with celery in xo sauce

img_3642.JPG

Comment: The scallops were fresh and delicious and soft. Very good!!! 😀

7. Garoupa, deep fried with thai sauce

img_3646.jpg

Comment: The chilli is too hot for poor me who can’t eat chilli at all and I got choked by the chilli bits till my eyes were teary. We changed it to garoupa steamed with supreme black sauce.

8. Braised ee-fu noodles with crabmeat and chives

img_3648.jpg

Comment: By now, my stomach was very bloated and I couldn’t eat anymore. Okie, can we ta-bao back?…we only asked for half-a-bowl serving of noodles but to me, still alot. Later must walk home lor.

9. Chilled sweetcorn with water chestnut

?Comment: Am I eatting starch or what? Very viscous…but I like to bite the crunchy chestnut bits. We change the dish to Yam Paste with ginko nuts.

The food tasting lasted for about 2 hours and it was very fulfilling for the mind and the stomach. Really enjoyed the companion and thank you to both parents, relatives and friends who came. We had a great time!!! Now, time to sleep!!!

Our hunt for our preferred hotel

After spending the whole of a week looking through the forum in singaporebrides.com, we have short listed a few hotels that we like. Initially, we wanted a lunch buffet by the pool. The only hotel with good feedback and rating is Mercury Roxy Hotel. But my friends advised me of choosing indoor because of unpredictable weather in December. I can’t risk the weather for spoiling my BIG DAY!!!
The other hotel we went to was also a promising hotel by the riverfront. We were supposed to meet the coordinator on Sunday in the evening. When we went there, no one attended to us. We called the sales coordinator nut no one picked up the phone. We waited for 1 hour and yet couldn’t contact her. We were unhappy. 5 minutes later, the coordinator contacted us telling us she was on MC. Oh my!!! She explained she had asked another colleague of hers to attend to us. But the other colleague didn’t contact us. We also heard that the other colleague couldn’t find us at the lobby. She could have called us but she didn’t. What a lame excuse. The unwell coordinator was very apologetic and offered to buy us dinner so we could fix another appointment. We accepted not because of the free dinner but we really like the hotel.
It was our first visit to the a hotel and I could say we had an experience that brought us a mixture of feelings. 😕

The 6 wedding dinners I attended in 6 month

5-wedding-cards.jpg

To come to think of it, I have attended 6 wedding dinners between January to July in this year. It doesn’t make me a wedding-dinner expert but it makes me more aware of the finer details I have to take note of for my own wedding dinner.

In January, I went to Marina Mandarin. In March, I went to Furama Riverfront Singapore. In June, I went for 3 wedding dinners, one at Plaza Parkroyal Singapore, Hilton and Grand Copthorne. In July, I went to York Hotel. Kinda of overwhelming but still it is fun. Beside attending our dear friends’ weddings, it is also a good opportunity to catch up with other friends.
My overall feeling is that it is definitely very tiring for the couples. In one instance, the bridegroom’s face is totally red, redder than a strawberry. Think he drank bottles of beer and wine rather than glasses of them. Still, it is a once a lifetime mega-project and experience for the wedding couples. So I wish they cherish and enjoy every moment that day. And not forgetting, it is the starting of another journey. I hereby wish them a blissful marriage for everyone of them. 😀
