Lynette

I had the chance to interview Lynette, the founder of Ola Designs.

Here is the email interview:

1) Can you give me an introduction of yourself, when and how did you start out and what is your wedding site about?

Hi! My name is Lynette, and am the founder of Ola Designs.

When I was planning for my own wedding in 2004, my husband and I believed that just like the gowns, the photographer, the banquet, the honeymoon etc, wedding stationery and accessories form a very integral part of our wedding. We firmly believe that the wedding stationery that the guests first receive is the first insight into the theme of our wedding and our individual characters.

After scouring for a long time, we decided that no one understands us better than ourselves! Hence we sat down, worked through the details to come up with our own special stationery and accessories. And soon after our wedding, an idea hit us! With our love for creating beautiful things and a passion for working with people, there is no better way to share this knowledge and passion than to help wedding couples complete their dream wedding! Hence Ola Designs was born in 2004 as a business that takes care of wedding matters (Hence our catchy tagline: Your wedding matters!)

Ola Designs now focuses on searching and creating collections of stationery and accessories for clients to browse and choose from, and these can be found on our website www.ola.com.sg . But what we really specialize in is helping our clients transform their ideas, thoughts, dreams into tangible stationery and accessories that they can truly call their own.

2) I understand you have been in the wedding-related field for quite some time and is now successful. What do you think is the key factor to your success?

I do not think that there is a single key factor to any success. Often, it is a mixture of factors. We have a few principle beliefs which we adhere strictly to and I think these contribute greatly to the confidence our clients have placed in us.

We Love Our Clients!
We treat every project as if we are planning and creating our own wedding stationery and accessories through the eyes of our clients. Every client is different in their own way, and we make it a point to understand their thoughts and dreams of a perfect wedding and then translate these into their personal stationery and accessories. To us, no customer is too small. We know and we understand that every couple have their own party size and their own budget. We welcome all enquiries with open arms and will gladly discuss the various options available to assist our clients in making informed choices.

A Creative Team
Other than myself, we also work very closely with a group of experienced professionals in the industry to create and produce the couple’s dream stationery and accessories.

Professional yet Flexible
There is no room for rigidity in creating personal stationery and accessories. We are proud of the fact that being creative people, we are flexible in accomodating our client’s request, yet providing professional advice on our client’s ideas and desires.

3) When you are working with couples, what is it that you are most proud of?

Nothing gratifies me more than seeing the look of amazement when our clients see for themselves how a concept has been transformed into “touchable” stationery / accessories and most of all, how beautifully they have turned out. Not to mention the times when they call us
subsequently to tell us how much their guests loved their stationery!
It’s a truly amazing feeling!

4) What is the greatest challenge that you have faced while growing your career?

Starting out is never easy. The initial years were about having couples share your belief that wedding stationery and accessories form a very important part of the wedding planning process, and it really is not just items that guests receive and then throw away. Couples have come a long way from then and many now not only want to have a pretty stationery/ accessories, but also something they can play a part in creating so that they can truly call it their own. In the recent years, our challenge is to constantly innovate and create products to meet these demands of the couples.

5) Currently, what is the one wedding tip you want to give to soon-to-wed couples?

Wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Plan and work through the details together as a couple. Grooms, do not tell her: “You decide” when she asks you if you like this invitation, this favour, this colour etc. And brides, do not tell him:”You decide” when he asks you for your opinion on this cufflink, this pair of shoes (yes it’s yet another black one), this bow-tie for the tux (yes, it’s still black in colour). Relish the time you spend with each other planning for one of the most wonderful moments of your life!

6) What are some of the areas do you think wedding couples always overlook when planning their own weddings? (can be pertaining to your own field)

Planning early! In my 4 years in this industry, I have seen too many couples think they can leave the invites, favours, ring pillows etc right to the very last as many think: “How long can it possibly take to produce them?” While you do not need to book 1 year in advance (as with banquets), it is advisable to plan and start sourcing for your stationery and accessories provider as early as 4 months prior to your event. This is especially so if you intend to create custom stationery and accessories. Couples then will not feel the heat, when the event date draws nearer, and can select the provider that best suits their needs and requirements.

7) Your final thought and advice for my wedding blog readers?

Do not be stressed! Yes, it is one of the most important events of your life, but if you plan early, and engage the right help, it is possible to relax and enjoy your big day!
